Daniel Fish directs Kramer/Fauci showdown dramatization
Directed by the acclaimed Tony, Olivier, and Obie award-winning Daniel Fish (Oklahoma!), Kramer/Fauci brings to life one of the most volatile dialogues of the AIDS crisis. The real-life televised showdown between activist-playwright Larry Kramer and Dr. Anthony Fauci became legendary for its charged nature, and was seen as a shift in the conversation, as well as the relationships between the two, which would eventually across decades become a close friendship. Featuring Tony Award-winner Will Brill (Stereophonic) and Thomas Jay Ryan, the historical flashpoint is as tense as ever, in what stands as a reminder of the power of activism and the humanity behind it.
In a ferocious confrontation live on TV in 1993, playwright Larry Kramer openly labeled Dr. Anthony Fauci a murderer, demanding accountability for a dying community, while Fauci navigated the slow, rigid gears of federal medical research. In Kramer/Fauci this shockwave event is dramatized in a deeply intimate exploration of two men, both fiercely committed to ending the AIDS crisis, whose adversarial relationship eventually evolved into an unlikely bond.
