Love, Memory and Belonging

Conceived and directed by French-Vietnamese playwright Caroline Guiela Nguyen, Saigon was created as a result of her research and time spent at the Villa Saigon. 

First performed at the Avignon Festival, Saigon rapidly rose to international attention and has since been enjoyed with sold-out success at festivals across the globe. The play has been nominated for several Moliere Awards and won the Georges Lherminier Prize from the professional critics' association.

What's The Story?

In a lively restaurant spanning 1950s Vietnam and 1990s France, strangers come together to share meals, songs, stories, conflicts, and moments of grief. Across generations and continents, their lives intertwine as they confront displacement, lost connections, and the enduring scars left by history. This wondrous production consists of many individual stories, creating a vibrant and detailed portrayal of Vietnamese and French identity, while showing the impact that the process of migration has on a person's life.
