Why see The Brooklyn Nutcracker?
A Yuletide Love Letter To Brooklyn
The Brooklyn Ballet gives new life to the much loved Yuletide favorite this holiday season in the hotly anticipated return of The Brooklyn Nutcracker. The timely makeover first charmed passers by on a local street corner in 2010, and what started out as a collaboration between a single ballet dancer and a hip hop performer grew to a fully sized production that artfully captures the essence of what it means to be a Brooklynite whilst preserving the proud tradition of the Christmas-time classic.
A heady fusion of ballet, hip hop and different forms of world dance, the production updates well known scenes and choreography to reflect recognisable, multicultural hallmarks of the borough, as well as bolsters a sense of community by providing an opportunity for the talented youngsters of BK a safe and non judgemental place to express themselves. If that wasn't enough, this extra special Nutcracker brings things into the future with dazzling lighting technology, motion-responsive costumes and digital sets.
